How to Defeat Trump

Matt Taibbi’s article on Trump is the worst piece of writing the fellow has ever produced. The genre of “I went to a Trump rally and felt smug and superior” has been done to death in the past few months. And as for the analysis, Taibbi’s ideas in the article are so fussy and superficial that one wonders why he feels so entitled to condescend to Trump followers if that’s the extent of his insight into the matter.

Yesterday’s debate made it absolutely clear that Trump is a very strong debater and a talented entertainer. However, it also demonstrated that he has weaknesses that can be exploited to make him crash in a debate. These weaknesses are as follows:

1. Trump is a sprinter and not a marathoner. He shines in the first 20 minutes of a debate, fades away in the middle, and becomes tired and distracted in the end. He can be outplayed by somebody who can stick with it for longer than a half hour.

2. Trump reacts very poorly to being ridiculed. Taibbi’s “what does he have to be insecure about” is simply dumb. These things are not rational. Trump can’t take hits to his ego gracefully. Even the inexperienced and clumsy Rubio managed to figure that out and get in a few punches yesterday.

All that Hillary needs to do in a debate is make Trump lose face and come off as weak and pathetic. It’s eminently doable. Yes, it sucks that this has to be done and that the electorate got roped into the Trump scam in the first place. But it’s really not the end of the world. This is the price that we all get to pay for allowing a big portion of the population fall behind and wallow in ignorance and confusion amidst a changing world.

Every time I see those GOP presidential candidates’ faces the word, backpfeifengesicht, pops into my mind. I’m also reminded that Rick Perry, former Texas governor, said back in the summer of 2015, “We have a tremendous field — the best in a generation — so I step aside knowing our party is in good hands.”

I guess that my usual emotional detachment from these events is missing this cycle because my girlfriend in Florida keeps sending me these listings of B&B s for sale in Nova Scotia. Anyone who is willing to trade a condo in Daytona Beach for a home in the wilds of maritime Canada is seriously motivated!

Yes. Being both a narcissist and misogynist, he reacts very badly to criticism from women. Megyn Kelly and Carly Fiorina really got under his skin in no time. If Clinton maintains her poise (which is the one quality she has in abundance) and questions him on the myths he’s created for himself (self-made man, ‘winner’), he’ll unravel.

Rubio had a great line last night about how if he hadn’t inherited daddy’s money he’d be selling fake watches on the streets of manhattan today.

  Read an article last night where some GOP insider bemoans the fact that none of the contenders did any opposition research on Trump. They never took Trump seriously, plus they thought others would do it and they’d just use their work.
  
  Last night the Trump University scam mention was a huge hit on social media everywhere. And this shit is no secret. Even I’ve known about it for years. Would it have killed these lazy idiots to do their job? You’re only running for the PRESIDENT OF USA.

    I never even heard about this scam. It’s incredible that nobody is using it to discredit him. There’s so much that can be done to undermine Trump but everybody is sitting by passively. Idiots.

    I didn’t really know about this. Also, it’s amazing to me if we’re talking about serious candidates. Half of the people in the Republican field were in it for the grift or to raise their profiles for a speaking/book tour. Being President is actual work and not a victory lap of people deferring to you at every turn. Look at Obama; he has aged so much.

      Yes, Obama has aged greatly. But he also matured enormously as a politician. I respect him hugely for his capacity to learn and progress. I hate rigidity, and he’s got none.

      “Look at Obama; he has aged so much.” Yep. It’s been a shock to see this–but it means that the man is clearly doing his job as President (and then some). Which is why I get so infuriated when lazy folks on the Far Left whine that Obama “hasn’t done anything” as President.

“Trump reacts very poorly to being ridiculed.” This. Remember when Obama cracked jokes about Trump at the White House Press Corps dinner back in 2011–right after giving the order to have Bin Laden taken out?

The look on Trump’s face was priceless. And never forget that he was one of the top “birthers” demanding Obama’s birth certificate.
