Among Russian-speaking immigrants, even those who detest Putin passionately support Trump. They dismiss Trump’s and Putin’s admiring comments about each other as “a joke.”
Obviously, pro-Putin Russian-speakers are also supporting Trump.
Ask me again why I avoid Russian-speakers and don’t see any reason to teach Russian to Klara.
But why?? How do you explain this?

These people are profoundly racist. They will never forgive Democrats for getting Obama elected.

And, most people most of the time vote identity – that is, they vote for the candidate that best reflects their idealized self-image. Particular issues are mostly irrelevant to most people most of the time.
Russophones would generally rather be rich celebrity business magnates (especially one who gives the impression of not working very heard) than anything any of the other candidates represent.

I speak to my daughter in Russian. Her first language is Kyrgyz. But, my Kyrgyz is still really rudimentary. She knows some English and if I can arrange it so we are together permanently I am hoping she will become proficient in it sooner rather than later. However, I am very glad my wife taught my daughter Russian so that she is not limited to just Kyrgyz.
