We are a college town, so there are many Bernie signs on people’s lawns, which is very heartening. But I also saw one front yard with Bernie signage and a placard saying “Hillary 2016 PRISON” next to it.
Moral of the story: there are dumbasses everywhere.
Have you seen this article? I have no issue if someone wants to support Sanders. I think there are good reasons for doing so. But this article made my blood boil. http://www.salon.com/2016/04/29/a_liberal_case_for_donald_trump_the_lesser_of_two_evils_is_not_at_all_clear_in_2016/

I refuse to read anything that merits a description of “liberal racism” without irony.
Evelina, have you seen the <a href=”https://www.splcenter.org/20160413/trump-effect-impact-presidential-campaign-our-nations-schools’>Southern Poverty Law Center report? The .pdf at the link is just jaw dropping. My nieblings and young cousins seem to be fine, but it’s not like kids share every shitty thing their peers say with their parents.

No. I haven’t seen this report. It’s depressing indeed.
It’s strange. When I was in grade school and there was an election, the teacher would use it as a “teaching moment.” So the students would have pretend votes, research a politician’s platform, make a speech as if they were a certain politician etc etc. I didn’t think about it before but I see why a teacher would be hesitant to do that now. The only way to really “research” Trump would necessarily alienate “non-white” students (not to mention force students to research vulgarity.) And Cruz is hardly better. A platform of “bomb them until the sands glow” is really quite terrifying for a young child.
It’s a sad state of affairs that Republican politics has gotten so bad that teachers can even make basic civics part of their curriculum. And this is what Bragman sees as somehow less dangerous than Clinton? Disgusting.

I wish I could say I’m surprised. But I’m not. Somebody I know, a perfectly normal, very liberal fellow came up with the same deranged argument as to how Trump is more liberal than Hillary. I tried to appeal to his intellect, reminding him of Trump’s belief that women should be punished for aborting, but it was useless.
There are people who will tell themselves anything, invent any idiotic excuse just to avoid voting for a woman. I mean, many of them are all progressive folks who support women. But only for as long as they see women as victims. As successful woman provokes their hatred.

Clarissa: Weirdly, the russophile dot org decided to copy this guy’s Salon posts, wholesale. He’s who you’d expect: white dude who grew up in the Hamptons, went to a SLAC, lives in Brooklyn, didn’t vote prior to 2008 (I’m being generous in the assumption the dude voted as soon as he was able). I wonder if this asshole helped anyone register to vote for Bernie in the primary, because that would have been actually useful instead of whinging.

Yes. Yet another example of abortion existing as a minimal issue for the vast majority of supposedly liberal male voters. Abortion isn’t a “real issue,” they love to to claim. Ugh.

The argument I’m seeing right now is “Trump doesn’t really mean it” and “Hillary was never that good on abortion rights anyway.” Here is an example: https://lbo-news.com/2016/04/28/factchecking-gail-collins/
