Hoping That Hillary Is a Liar

OK, is it true that Hillary is saying Bill will have a role in her administration? Because it’s the most horrible idea ever. I have nothing against Bill Clinton but I hate people who inflict their spouses on others in professional contexts. Hillary needs to stand on her own. And Bill should stay home.

I hope she’s not being sincere about this because if she is, I’m going back to supporting Bernie. He, at least, knows when it’s time to shoo the hovering wife off the stage.

What possessed Hillary to do something so idiotic? Is she trying to look weak and useless on purpose?

    It’s very simple: She knows that her husband is much more popular among Democrats that she ever was — or ever will be.

        Oh, if Hillary’s elected, she’s obviously going to give Bill some significant — if unofficial — role in her administration, like she had in his. (Remember HillaryCare?)

        Now that he’s retired, he needs a hobby besides chasing women.

        But he won’t be “running the economy,” which is what Hillary said in her remarks that he’d be doing.

    For now I am going on the assumption this was a trial balloon and will soon be dropped and forgotten. Lots of people are reacting the same as you.

    It is a horribly dumb idea and thing to say. Of course you expect that the president is going to go over work issues at home with his/her spouse (as lots, if not most, of us married folk do) but you don’t make that an official policy. Generally, first families hide and downplay the spouse’s involvement in Oval Office-level activities (see for example, how much input Nancy Regan had behind the scenes).

    Assuming Hillary is elected, Bill will indeed need a project as the first spouse but it should be a more in line with what others in his role have done: Lady Bird Johnson advocated beautifying America by removing billboards from highways and planting flowers; Michelle has championed child nutrition; if I remember correctly, both Bushes promoted childhood literacy; then there was Nancy Reagan’s “Just say no” (to drugs) campaign. Hillary headed an effort to encourage childhood vaccination.

    I can’t remember what kept Pat Nixon or Betty Ford busy. I think Jackie Kennedy redecorated the White House. That’s it for first ladies in my lifetime that I remember (I was too young at the time to know Mamie Eisenhower existed).

    So what would be a good project for Bill? Maybe anti-obesity? He was once known for scarfing down Big Macs and now he is a skinny vegan.

      Come on, beautifying the country and working with children’s projects are considered stereotypical “women’s work” — reminds me of when I was in the military, and a big-shot general and his wife would visit the base. (The generals always inspected the flightline and the troops, while their wives toured the base hospital and chapel — and maybe the library, if they weren’t already bored enough.)

      Does anybody think that an alpha male like Bill Clinton is going to humiliate himself by overseeing a “beautification” project?

        Bill is old but he’s not so old as to see working with children as humiliating. 🙂 Besides, as humiliations go, after the Starr report, there ain’t much that can humiliate Bill. What’s a little beautification project compared to a stained blue dress, you know?

        LMAO. Bill Clinton dismissed Jocelyn Elders from her post as Surgeon General for that.

        I’m not sure how far Mr. HRC has shifted from his conservative Democrat, Blue Dog origins.

    I heard her on the radio saying she would put Bill in charge of growing the economy because we all know he is good at that (cf a certain 90s boom). I considered that boom a bubble and I am not looking forward to another similar one.

      It’s beyond ridiculous. If she confesses from the start that she can’t even handle the economy and needs a man to do that, then what kind of President can she be? And it’s doubly stupid given that Sanders is attracting massive crowds precisely because he’s tapping into the anger over where the handling of the economy during the 1990s took the country. We need something new, not a throwback to 20 years ago!
