Cont’d

And of course I brought everything with me: food to feed an army of hungry infants, a stack of diapers we normally use in a week, a changing pad, dummies, a change of clothes, even a rattle she still doesn’t understand.

In short, everything except for the only thing I turned out really to need: cloths to clean spitup. It’s always like that, always.

I finally did but those were brand-new, beautiful clothes. I’m an idiot.

Is this an argument for baby telepathy?

Klara (scanning Clarissa’s mind) “She’s thought of everything! Wait! No! She’s forgotten that babies often like to spit up! HA HA HA!!! Enact plan Baby Barf!”

Actually, yes, she is extremely skillful at attracting attention. Every time I start eating, she begins to act up. Because she can feel that I become disengaged. It’s very impressive.

I’ve noticed that the sign of an experienced mother among my friends is that, even as their children become teenagers, they ALWAYS have cloths and wipes in their cars, bags etc….

I’m hoping that within 5 years at most Klara will figure out that she needs always to carry around wipes for me. 🙂
