Dominant Culture

“My culture is a dominant culture, and it’s imposing and it’s causing problems,” Marco Gutierrez said in an interview on MSNBC. “If you don’t do something about it, you’re gonna have taco trucks [on] every corner.”

I understand why he wants to believe that: it’s very flattering and must make him feel tall and imposing. But it couldn’t be further from the truth. Hispanic immigrants adapt to host cultures better than anybody and their children never speak a word of Spanish even with fully monolingual parents.

This is great in some ways and bad in others.

Their children tend to end up confused about who they are in a society that is nuts about identities. Since they can’t go to an actual language and an actual culture to define an identity, they start to invent all kinds of ridiculousness, such as “People of color” memes, “Latinxs” (not a typo), “you are not my abuela” freakouts, etc. The more successful the parents are, the worse the kids are freaking out because they have time to freak over this shit.

I’m with the majority of Americans who, when they saw that the Democratic victory would include more taco trucks, wholly and totally celebrated that we would have more tacos. 😉

I do understand what you’re speaking about here, in terms of cultural assimilation. Having lived in Florida almost my entire life, I’ve seen Latinos deal with the cultural expectations and coming to terms with it for better, not often for the worse. As an aside, I grew up in Tarpon Springs, where there was a major Greek immigration population (still ongoing) and they had their own cultural issues over it. Still, great food (whadda ya mean, Platka’s closed?! Noooooo, the best gyros in the state…)

    Do you have any proof that he raped any one? As far as I know he has never been convicted in a rape trial.
    
    The rapist accusation came after a satirical article he wrote about rape being legalized on private property. The moral was that going home with a guy a woman just meets puts the woman in a dangerous situation that can lead to her being raped. It was not a serious policy proposal.
    
    Honestly, it could have been said in a better way.

    Roosh is a perfect example of a child of immigrants who hasn’t assimilated very well. Pickup culture is very racially hierarchized, and Roosh is not at the top (link to We Hunted the Mammoth). He’s overcompensating by taking it out on women. It doesn’t surprise me that he thinks the way he does.

      The so-called pick up artists deserve the same compassion as all mentally deficient people do. Other than as people in need of psychiatric care, I don’t see much interest in them. I’m sorry they are untreated but it’s every adult’s responsibility to seek diagnosis and treatment.

      Roosh has said he doesn’t fit in urban America, so he left the country. He is more positive about traditional and rural America. His criticisms are constructive in a similar vain to Clarissa on the opioids, but different topics such as feminism, multiculturalism, and rape prevention.

        He is one of three blogs I follow along with Clarissa’s blog and Captain Capitalism. I learn from all of them. They have different opinions but all of them are very talented, are intellectual powerhouses, and entertaining to read. Roosh isn’t as bad as the media makes him out to be. He says the media is against him because he doesn’t agree with the globalist agenda.

After finding out Clarissa is from the mid west I can see why she thinks hispanics assimilate so well. In smaller numbers it is more socially beneficial to assimilate, so I can see this being true in that area.

I went to a high school in Florida that where hispanics were the majority and

was not something that was going on where I lived. Many of the hispanics spoke Spanish at school. This created a social bubble only for Spanish speakers. I heard a few times hispanic students say that Spanish should be an official language of Florida. There were asian kids of immigrants in much smaller numbers that pretty much always spoke English at school. In my town, I think Asians assimilated much more.

On top of the huge amount of hispanics the staff pushed multiculturalism very hard. We even had a multicultural day every year. Many teachers, who were mostly white were very critical of the United States because of sexism, racism, and imperialism. The staff also encouraged minority students not to assimilate. One of the common phases they used was “The United States is not a melting pot anymore. Now it is a salad bowl.” There were also big signs saying “Diversity” and “Tolerance” placed around campus.

  My point is the amount of people makes a difference in assimilation. If there are 5% hispanic kids at a school they are more likely to assimilate to benefit socially. If the school is 55% hispanic they could get by in a Spanish speaking social bubble.
  
  I have a childhood friend from Russia who assimilated. If she lived in Brighton Beach I think she would be less assimilated.
  
  I do think hispanics assimilate much better than muslims. I went to Paris and was surprised by how many people were speaking Arabic and not French. Also, I have not heard of any hispanic terror attacks which is a big plus to the hispanic community.

      Half of my family is Jewish from Poland and Ukraine. They came to the US around 1922. Being with them and looking at voting data, Jews are a left wing group. Beyond that I think there are a lot of conspiracies with little proof. If some one could prove that to me I will change my mind.
      
      Do you have any proof that they were behind any of the recent attacks like Orlando, San Bernardino, Paris, Brussels, Munich, Cologne, Nairobi, Israel, or any where else? If so post it here and I will consider it.

    Of course, people don’t assimilate if there’s nothing for them to assimilate into. Majorities never adapt to minorities.

I agree with you dude. I get depressed going to Miami see my mother’s relatives, they barely speak English and act like they’re still in Cuba. I don’t agree with Clarissa that Hispanic immigrants assimilate well, the ones around here only speak Spanish and have a pathological hatred of Americans and white people. My parents didn’t teach me Spanish and I speak it with a heavy New Jersey accent, and I’m not confused by my identity. I’m American, my family is American and we are not going back to that Communist shithole

    I know, because my parents insisted. My cousins live in Miami where you can live without ever learning English, it’s depressing. That’s why they don’t leave, they’re stuck in this Spanish bubble

        I’m sure it is tough, and learning a language takes a lot of work and persistence. However, if one chooses to be an immigrant, learning the language of the host country is something that should be done for the benefit of the host country. Even for the benefit of the migrant. There are more opportunities if they learn the host’s language. They wont be stuck in unassimilated areas like Miami or Brighton Beach.

  Well Miami is a different case altogether. For a time it was (and maybe still is) a major business and banking center for Latin America and a large population of people fluent/native in Spanish was necessary to maintain that.
  
  With the good (the increased capital inflows) there will be the bad (people who just kind of vegetate into Cuban monoculturalism like maybe your family).
  
  It’s hard to criticize Miamians for speaking Spanish (if they also know English which most of them do – my attempts to use Spanish there were always met with very polite American English).
  
  Of course politically Miami Cubans are the absolute worst, but that’s a completely different issue.

    The money is not worth it, if it destroys some of the West’s great cities. London is another example of not being worth the cultural costs.
    
    In the cases of Langley Park and Kissimmee the communities were destroyed with little benefit to the country or the people living in those areas.
