Local mathematicians joke that when the university tries to hire a professor of statistics, the candidate hears what the salary is and asks, “Per month??”
At least, that statistician has a salary.

The statistician rejects the job and goes to work in the private sector. And our students don’t get a professor. Because the university is too damn cheap.
