Nation-state Demolition Service

“I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.

Shocked, I asked him what he meant.

“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”

It can’t possibly be any clearer. Bannon’s – and by extension Trump’s – goal is to destroy the nation-state  (because there is no other state form right now) in the service of liquid capital. It slaughters me that people don’t understand this and call them nationalists when they are the exact opposite.

And this is why I don’t assume that GSLiC voters love America. How can you if you voted to put this man and these advisors in power?

    • It’s not about actual love, it’s about rhetoric. Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank got everybody to call him Mr Wonderful without being remotely wonderful. At first, everybody laughed but now everybody calls him that completely seriously.

      It’s all about words.

Pity, I keep trying to make fetch happen. Perhaps GSLiC will have better luck with his extracurricular activities?

That was weak, even for you. It is ok to acknowledge the absurdities of one’s party once in a while, you know. I would laugh at it even if it were a democrat who uttered those words. But not you. You posted a non sequitur in response because you’re a humorless idiot. Do better.

lol who am I kidding. Carry on.

Sorry, Stringer Boy. If you want a response from me, you’re going to have to come up with better insults than these.

Otherwise, I’m just going to have to ignore you until my next post. Carry on. 🙂

  4. Even snopes is casting doubt on that “Leninist” quote. It could indeed “possibly be any clearer”, given that everything else he’s said and done is nationalist in character. Closing the borders? Capital hates that. Liquid capital wants liquid labor.

Closing the borders is a move in support of the nation-state.

gruff, is he closing the borders or sending a message to illegal migrants to know their place, while pleasing his voters at the same time by saying what they wish to hear? I doubt illegal immigration will be stopped significantly, no matter what Trump says.

Obama had some plan to legalize some of migrants, no? Thus, giving them more power to negotiate and demand normal working conditions. Trump’s approach is the opposite – “keep quiet and be happy to work for 1$ an hour” (or whatever their salary is, I am not American so don’t know).

      • Closing the borders TO CAPITAL, not to some hapless schmuck from Oaxaca, that’s what would support the nation-state. Liquid capital doesn’t care about schmucks from Oaxaca. It’s the financial flows that matter.

    • Just to stress the obvious: capitalists (Liquid capital) want nothing more than 100% powerless work force, and frightened illegal migrants fit that to a T.

  5. Found that opinion column very interesting. Clarissa, if you read, I would love to hear your thoughts.

    The new anti-Israel alliance
Op-ed: Israel used to have bipartisan support in the US. The Democrats have not turned into Israel haters, but only a blind person can’t sense the change. This can be stopped, but the current government – with its illusion of an alliance with the new administration – is likely incapable of doing what is best for Israel.

Time will tell but check your feeds: ICE raids are happening now and people are being removed from the country as we speak. My read is that it’s not a token effort.

Obama had some plan to legalize some of migrants, no? Thus, giving them more >power to negotiate and demand normal working conditions. Trump’s approach is >the opposite – “keep quiet and be happy to work for 1$ an hour” (or whatever their >salary is, I am not American so don’t know).

Several points here. Power to negotiate – what, by joining a union? What union? Labor is almost totally disorganized. A new amnesty would do nothing to change that, just like Reagan’s amnesty did nothing for unions. Trump’s approach – as I’ve said it’s looking like Trump’s approach is “get out”. ICE is literally going door to door in south Texas as I write this. “Keep quiet” was the status quo ante, which is why there are so many illegals in the first place. Finally, Obama’s EO giving mass legalization was sadly found to be unconstitutional – it had no chance.

Just to stress the obvious: capitalists (Liquid capital) want nothing more than ?>100% powerless work force, and frightened illegal migrants fit that to a T.

Capital wants a large and docile workforce. Frightened illegal migrants don’t fit that – frightened illegal migrants leave the country. Trump is shrinking the workforce, which, thanks to supply and demand, will put up wages. It’s early days so who knows maybe he’ll let in a big wave all of a sudden. But I doubt it.

    • No, capital doesn’t need any workforce, let alone a large and docile one. Folks, please wake up. It’s not 1975. Everything is automated. The large and docile workforce is on the trash heap of history. The wages of “the poorly educated” are not going up. Ever. All they’ll get is GBI.

Hilarious. Please explain why capital has been consistently working to increase immigration and reduce border restrictions for decades. Here’s the WSJ promoting open borders under NAFTA in 2000:

And here’s the Economist in 2017 proposing more immigration to China et al. to help with their looming labor shortage: http://www.economist.com/blogs/graphicdetail/2017/02/daily-chart-6

That’s right, a labor shortage in China. You’d better call up the Economist and tell them they actually don’t need any workforce. None at all!

“Everything is automated” – have you been outside of the house lately? Only a shut-in, or an academic, could make such a meaninglessly false generalization.
