I love everything about the American higher ed. Except for this kind of thing. I already heard enough of this earnest, fiery crap back in the USSR. I don’t want to hear it again.

Tovarisch, it is worrying that you do not seem enthusiastic about policies for categorizing people and selecting a group whose composition reflects goals of five-year plan. I would not want to see you selected for a re-education camp.

When I was growing up in the USSR, at least nobody took this crap seriously any more. The true believers had all been killed by the system they created back in the 1930s. Just saying.

I wonder if the purge of true believers has already happened and the people talking now are just bureaucrats who hired consultants to help them sound like true believers.

I wonder, though. I think s0me of the bureaucrats honestly believe that they believe. I’ve seen their facial expressions, their body language. Some of them desperately want to believe that what they are doing is making the world a better place.

Oh, I know they do. I find it so pathetic, really.

I think a lot of the statements here are false. Including that the Lumina Foundation is the key promoter of the idea that college is good. I’m assuming the piece was commissioned and placed by Lumina, a foundation I’d like to know more about before I take anything it says at face value.
