Wrong About Trump

I’ve never been as consistently and relentlessly mistaken on any subject as I’ve been on Trump. I thought he’d start invading the second he was elected. I thought he’d immediately, well, eventually, well, now for sure, would recognize the Crimea as Russian. I thought he’d let Putin start another invasion of Ukraine or of somebody else. I thought he’d start a global economic crisis.

I was wrong. We were all wrong, many times over. This doesn’t mean he’s a good president, far from it. The fellow stinks. But we are all constantly wrong about what he will do. And to avoid recognizing that we can’t figure it out, we try to make a lot of hype over ridiculous, silly little things like payments to some Playboy prostitute or some sad Russian whore of zero import.

The question is: are we all constantly so wrong because we don’t get real information or real analysis? Are fake news a real thing, maybe?

Of course ‘fake news’ is real, the thing is that all sides engage in it, all news from all media has to be met with one’s critical faculties engaged – rather than the emotional goopiness that media itself enoucrages.
What I noticed with you and Trump was massive anxiety and almost apocalyptic rhetoric before he would do something and then when he did it…. you thought it wasn’t so bad or were even positive about it. I was wonderingly how long it would take you to notice the pattern.
I don’t think he is or will ever be a very good president, but the limits of the office and the institutional…. insulation against craziness can keep his worst excesses in check.

Referring obliquely to something Cliff also discussed, Trump is incompetent and that keeps him from doing all that much damage.

His worst legacy will be environmental, I have a feeling, and will lead to much more carbon emissions, destruction of wild areas, and species extinctions. This is what bothers me about Trump the most.

You are as wrong about other things as well, I suspect your entire worldview. Trump has given you the opportunity to open that door and peer through it. Take the opportunity.

He does not ‘stink’, he’s going to be the best American President ever.

Some comments about you say.

I’m not surprised by the fact that he didn’t do that until now, but I’m worry about the fact that military spending is skyrocketing and the fact that he asked NATO members to do the same.

I’m surprised by this, and that’s where all the Trump-Russia scrutiny is a good thing. He was forced to fire his 2 main Putin puppets, Flynn and Manafort, and he even fired his 3rd best Putin puppet (Tillerson) for other reasons. Now, Putin puts his focus in supporting fascist political parties in Europe.

I’m not surprised by the fact that it isn’t happening. Obama was not so shitty on economy, and the actual world context does not give the necessary circumstances to create a global economic crisis. However, give another 4 years of Congress and Senate GOP majority to Trump and his economic policies will be very detrimental to the american economy.

So, yeah, you were wrong about Trump on foreign policy, but not on his national policies.

Don’t worry, you are not as wrong as many others, including even Trump supporters.

Actually, I’m not as surprised about Trump as I am about the total inability of the Democrats, almost two years after the election, to mount ANY kind of effective minority-party opposition, to even begin to define what their basic party goals are, or have any single prominent Democrat emerge as the de facto public spokesman representing the party to the American public.

Yeah, Trump has done better than expected, but I never thought the entire Democratic Party would turn into the Keystone Cops.
