Last night, Klara turned on the TV, sat in front of it, and announced, “Shh, Mommy. I’m watching the TV!”
The TV was tuned in to MSNBC, as always, and there was a segment about Trump.
“What is this, Mommy?” Klara asked.
“This is the president,” I explained.
“Why, Mommy?” she asked. “Why is he the president?”
The question was too deep for me to answer, so I said, “Because it’s his job.”
“Why is he so yucky, Mommy?” she continued.
“He’s not yucky,” I said, feeling that the conversation was running away from me. “He’s the president.”
“Why is he talking funny? Pee you, president! You, silly goose!”
I obviously don’t talk to her or around her about Trump or anything political. But toddlers are like radars. They have direct access to their parents’ subconscious.
“Why is he so yucky, Mommy?” she continued.
Excellent question. Maybe because his parents raised him to be that way?

At his age, I think he bears full responsibility for what he is, you know?
But yes, kids ask the best questions.

Kids probably talk about it at preschool. You’d be surprised how much politics toddlers discuss! I’m not kidding. Whenever there’s a presidential election all my kids, no matter what age, knew it was happening based on the information from their friends.

We are in Trump country, though. I’d love to know who are the liberal parents among the preschool crowd.

I think she’s a little young for this (“Electoral College”, School House Rock):

I hope that by the time she is old enough to hear about national politics, I will have better news and examples for her than what we are seeing right now.

Or perhaps, if your TV is always tuned to MSNBC, Klara is picking up all the non-stop Trump-hatred from that far-left propaganda channel.

We obviously don’t watch TV when she’s around.
