I have a strong suspicion that Murdoch fired Tucker Carlson because Trump asked him to. Trump can’t stand disloyalty, and Tucker’s text messages where he mocks and expresses deep contempt for Trump must have been humiliating.
Murdoch must want to get into Trump’s good graces because Trump has been going around calling him a RINO globalist.
The rest of the explanations offered by fantasists at left-wing outlets all sound stupid.

I seriously doubt this was the reason. You don’t fire your top show host who is bringing you millions and millions of dollars just to please Trump. That’s kinda silly. Tucker also interviewed Trump two weeks ago, so there is that.
The real reason you fire someone who is making you so much money, is money; and Fox News just lost nearly 1 billion dollars for lying about the election, and there are lots more lawsuits in the horizon. They needed to fire the face of the election farce story that they concocted to make viewers angry and make money, and that person happened to be Tucker Carlson.
Also, think about how damning this shit is where they prefer to pay 1 billion dollars rather than go to trial and have all these documents go on the record. The few documents that we already have, show a clearly did not believe the election was rigged, but kept that going to make money. Truly nasty stuff.

Imagine how many more money would be lost if Trump told his supporters not to watch Fox. The $800 million paid to Dominion are already lost. Firing Tucker won’t recover them.
The face of the election fraud story on Fox isn’t Tucker. It’s Maria Bartiromo. She was featured in the lawsuit but she wasn’t fired. The only person who was fired said nasty things about Trump. If Fox simply wanted to distance itself from election fraud story, they would have gotten rid of a lot less profitable Bartiromo and kept the high-earning Tucker.
This reeks of Trump’s famous vengeance streak.

I thought Fox News was already distancing from Trump.
My understanding is there are other lawsuits in progress. One for $2 billion, so they stand to lose a lot more money on top of the already lost $800 millions.

Nobody knows who she is. Tucker was the face of Fox News and he also spewed election fraud stories; I think that was enough.
But yeah, maybe Tucker’s clear lies and double face when it comes to Trump did not help his cause. But that couldn’t have been the only reason for such a sudden firing.
