The first round of editing on my Ukrainian book already came back, which is incredibly fast. There will be one more round, and then I’ll get proofs. I’m stunned, veritably stunned, by the effectiveness of these Ukrainian editors.

By the way, I’ll never be able to publish a book in Spain. Not for any ideological reasons but because I have no connections and know no useful people. And in Ukraine, where nobody knows me from Adam, I found two very interested publishers immediately.

In the US, the publishing process is very honest and non-corrupt, but the Hispanic world is still not catching up.

    Have a go outside academics and certain academic-orientated specialties and see if you continue to say that with a straight face.

    Anyone care to have a stab at Tor or Baen on my behalf? Or the Big Five (or Six)?

    Already spat out part of a lung at that, the ensuing rant would finish me off. 🙂

      Of course, I’m only speaking about academic publishing. I don’t know anything about any other kind.

    That’s what conferences are for. The last thing they’re about is sharing the information in people’s papers (most of which are of interest to only a vanishingly small percentage of those attending).

    The papers are a McGuffin to get people from different institutions and/or countries to interact and get to know each other so when faced with a problem they have a network to go to.

    You’ve been conferencing wrong.

      Oh, I know I’m doing it wrong. I never go anywhere at a conference except my own panel and then clear out immediately after.

      I decided a long time ago not to go against my own nature. My nature requires that I sit in my room alone 24-7 during a conference and enjoy it intensely. So that’s what I do.

        So you’ve discovered your true self.

        I think the hostility to the snowflakes is because special snowflakes need to differentiate themselves from the other snowflakes.
