My Interview

I understand nobody can read it but it’s my first interview in Ukraine, so I have to post it.

The photo is oldish and it’s a selfie. I wanted to have a professional photo done and asked the official photographer of our university. But his vision of me is different from mine. The photo is hideous. A huge, toothy smile, one eye larger than another. I look like an idiot in it. So I had to go with the selfie.

  1. Congratulations! You look amazing in the picture. Also, when I had my “professional” photo taken at the university, it was not a pleasurable experience at all. The photograph asked me to catch some impossible angles with my head so many times that I felt like everything was wrong with my face.

    1. What is it with American photographers and the obsession with smiling maniacally? I don’t spend my whole life smiling, and especially not in professional contexts. I don’t make a living as a clown, even though academia is often a circus act.

      1. I never smile for official pictures. I figure if I’m in a situation where anybody’s actively trying to verify my identity, I am definitely not going to be happy. Best if my picture matches…
