Kindle’s text-to-speech is now so good that Audible will soon go out of existence. It’s interesting how developing tech is destroying a large revenue stream within the same company.
The best example of that is how Steve Jobs’ Apple cannibalized the iPod when it launched the iPhone.

I haven’t used either but doesn’t audible have some great actors doing the reading? Does it make a difference?

Audible did start going in the direction of getting a different actor for each part but this ended up driving up the prices. It’s hard to justify the cost when you can get a perfectly good reading for free.
Plus, you kind of get used to the text-to-speech voice, and that makes it easier to get into a new book. They really undervalued the importance of familiarity to people.

What Kindle model/generation do you have?

I’m 10th Generation. Had it since 2019. It’s a phenomenal device. Looks and works as new after almost 5 years of heavy daily use. I only got one in 2019 because I stupidly lost my 2nd Gen on a trip.
