Tolerance on the Right

Horowitz mentions how when he became a conservative he noticed that people on the Right were unexpectedly tolerant of divergent viewpoints within conservatism. I’ve noticed this, too. I’ve disagreed with people in my signature intense way about all sorts of things. Trump, abortion, Israel, higher education. And people disagreed in return. Also very passionately. But that was it. The disagreement didn’t go any further. Nobody condemned me as a human being. Nobody accused me of wanting to murder anybody. Nobody diagnosed me with a something-phobia. Nobody said I can’t be a good person if I believe whatever it is I believe.

Also, something I noticed back when I was very much on the Left is that the more conservative people are, the likelier they are to ask questions. They are more curious about people because they accept that there’s more to a person than her political beliefs.

    Maybe that’s because conservatives already have religion so they don’t need to treat politics like it’s a religion. Whereas for liberals, politics is the only religion they have and there can be no heretics.

      Exactly, and they say it openly. It’s a religion where they are gods, refashioning reality according to their will.

    Literally a religion. Remember, we are supposed to take our cues from how society should be run from these enlightened people.

      Remember how the Dem politicians were kneeling during George Floyd? Old, rich people who are so enamored of power they’d degrade themselves in this way. I couldn’t watch it was so embarrassing.

    Yes, I particularly remember those people preposterously kneeling while wearing ludicrous kente scarves – a blatant case of cultural appropriation if there ever was one: who were they impersonating? What kind of cosplay was that? Atoning for whose sins? And wasn’t that highly inappropriate given that they were mostly a bunch of atheists/agnostics or at best renegade Christians? The mind boggles at the thought.

    I shall bow on bended knees to the Lord God, and to the Lord alone.

      It reminded me how our university center for diversity and inclusion tried to conduct a “Latinx Graduation” and forced all Hispanic students (who are almost invariably Mexican on Central American around here) to wear sashes with the flag of Peru. What Peru had to do with any of it, nobody knew. This is very symbolic of what DEI is. Ignorant, stupid and insulting.

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released several statements in recents days saying he intended to order an invasion of Rafah regardless of whether Israel and Hamas reach a deal for the release of hostages being held in Gaza and a ceasefire.

    From what I understood, Hamas military capacities will remain too strong unless we destroy them in Rafah too. We cannot let this happen and have all our enemies witness Hamas’s triumph. They are like sharks in the water smelling blood. Even w/o other more powerful enemies, we cannot enable another 9.10 for Hamas.

    Just today Hamas simply dared Israel to enter Rafah:

      Don’t listen to haters. Americans are overwhelmingly supportive of Israel. Unfortunately, the Biden administration is incapable of standing up to the lunatic fringe in the Dem party. But all normal people are looking at this absolute insanity with great disgust.
