Even after these allegations were exhaustively researched and exactly zero bodies were found in these “mass graves”, the lies get repeated again and again. The public’s confirmation bias kicks in, and people start believing in these utterly imaginary mass murders of indigenous children simply because they heard about them so much.

There are so many of these extraordinary lies that a normal person can’t keep track. Our shared public space is being poisoned with falsehood. And the only reason this happens is because we allow it. We never punish the liars. Instead, we keep consuming the lies they peddle.

    But Clarissa, do you single-handedly want to destroy the flourishing industry created by self-flagellating White Canadians perennially atoning for imaginary crimes against First Nations? It would be genocidal vandalism of the highest order! Think of all the poor Whites with a 1/247 millionth drop of First Nations blood, where would they be without this foundational national myth? No more prebends for them in academia, no more cushy jobs on local community councils, no more designated places in government and parliament! How can you be so cruel, so callous, so inconsiderate? How could you?

      It’s like Canadians suddenly lost their ever-loving minds with this crap. Trudeau is decimating small and medium-sized businesses. Literally driving business out of Canada with Biden promising to imitate these terrible policies. And instead of talking about this current problem that will have a very negative impact on the economy, people are emotionally masturbating over invented graves from a century ago. It’s beyond weird.

        Isn’t is just classic avoidance? “We’ll get to this big problem….. right after we fix this other event we just now found out about that happened 80 years ago!”

        It’s the political version of “I’ll start writing my term paper…. just as soon as I clean up this mess in my room!”

          They get emotional about it. It’s so weird. Many elderly were unnecessarily placed in grace danger in nursing homes during COVID. Many died as a result. But nobody is asking for an investigation. Instead, people are pouring millions into investigating these graves which – even if they were real – have zero impact on anything today.

    We had one of those here, only with slightly more cause– Dozier Boys School. Same freakish media frenzy, where a bunch of out-of-state leftie news sources, NYT, NPR, WaPo, the whole complement of them, reported on it as though it had been a massacre: “100 Child Graves Found at Notorious School!” It was, in fact, the final chapter in a long, sad, story. But nobody went out and killed 100 kids and dumped them in a pit.

    The school ran for 111 years and over that long history was notorious for abuse.

    Also, over that century, 100 kids died at the school. It’s in the school records. Not all of them were buried there– if the family was able to reclaim the body, they did. But most of these kids came from poor families, and if they couldn’t be reclaimed, they were buried on campus. There have been 55 graves for sure identified on the grounds, with maybe another 27 in a ground survey.

    That almost certainly involved deaths from abuse. But also, over 100 years kids did also die of illness, fire, accidents… and it’s not always easy to tease out that information. There’s definitely a story there. But I have yet to see a report that even tries to look at it objectively and get a clear picture of how bad the situation was. Instead they get sidetracked by weird tangents like this:

    “Three times as many black as white students died and were buried at Dozier. USF’s report noted that excluding a 1914 event in which a large number of white boys were killed in a fire, the racial balance of deaths was consistent with the school’s overall population demographics”

    That’s from wiki. The news versions tended to leave out the second part of that. They’ll get into OMG scare stuff about the fact that the school was segregated. During a time when the entire state was segregated. That was hardly the worst thing going on there, but hey, sure, let’s focus on that like it’s the most shocking thing in the story… Do they think, that in 1930s Florida, the black kids would have been *better off* mixed in with the criminal white kids?

    sigh. Every piece of reporting on that, that I’ve run across, takes a truly awful story of long-term institutional abuse (I have read accounts from the former inmates, and those are pretty horrific– and possibly the only ones with much credibility), and then instantly poleaxes its own credibility by trying to make it sound like every death that happened there was staff murdering black children, or that every grave on the property is some sort of coverup. When they talk to the relatives, you get the same story over and over: “They told us he died, but we didn’t have any way to come get him.” That is not, in itself, a scandal. The scandal lies in the lack of official inquests.

      Smithsonian even says “hundreds of boys” died there. Hundreds. Even NPR doesn’t tell lies that egregious.
