I cannot believe we are still on this ludicrous lie about injecting bleach. It’s been years, and nobody found a better criticism of Trump than this fabrication?

Whoever runs Biden’s Twitter account is being counterproductive because nobody save for the hyperpartisan Dems would like this.

It never stops surprising me how limp-wristed and silly the criticisms of Trump are. There is so much stuff to criticize him for but nobody ever talks about it, concentrating on the easily disprovable lies about “very fine people”, Mexican rapists, injected bleach, dictatorship / fascism, and a mocked disabled journalist. It’s never anything else. Never anything of substance.

Loyalty tests…. if they criticized the things that deserve criticizing then some are agreeing out of principle (and might disagree with them out of principle later).

If dem supporters mindlessly repeat inane and/or disproven charges…. then that’s what the dem leadership wants (grateful to Galeev who pointed out a similar dynamic in putin’s russia)

Or in other words, it’s like the email scam letters that purport to be from the Nigerian government with hotmail addresses and grammatical and spelling errors throughout. Those are left in because the serve as a screening device for the gullible (who are willing to overlook how it doesn’t make sense because they’re already counting their share of the loot).

Why doesn’t either party want people with judgement?

Well, let’s take the “lies” one at a time:
1. The bleach. Here, we need to look at context. Then-President Trump was introducing what for many Americans was a crucial information session about COVID. What he should have said was, “Here now is the latest and best information we have from scientific experts,” and then let the experts speak. Instead, we got quite a bit of nattering about, yes, bleach, along with bright light and a score of half-remembered and less-than-half-understood “scientific ideas.” (Of course, Trump really and truly understands deep science because his uncle taught at M.I.T.) So the people who injured themselves after taking Trump literally? You can make fun of them if you want, but think for a second–they were “stupid” because they listened to Trump. Much like the frat heroes of the movie Animal House in their immortal quote: “You fucked up. You trusted us.”
2. Mocking the reporter. Well, yeah. He did. There are videos. Trump’s excuses right after were ridiculous. And have you read articles that “disprove” the mockery? My goodness. The tap-dancing, the circumlocution, the backtracking… it’s practically impenetrable. “Oh, it’s his go-to gesture for mocking people!” Riiiiiggghhhttt. I mean, it’s old news now, of course. And he’s gone on to mock stuttering, much to the joy of his admirers. But I’d have a lot more respect for those who just say–yeah, he mocks disabled people. So what? That, at least, would have a glimmer of integrity.
3. Mexican rapists. “They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” So yup, he said it. Is it a lie because he immediately said there were some good ones?
4. Very fine people–well, there’s a small window of plausible deniability. “He meant there were fine people who were just there to protest tearing down statues…” Well, maybe? But that raises the question, what kind of dumbass brings up that kind of distinction in the midst of a horrific incident? Granted, the question tracks–Trump is indeed an epic dumbass. Here’s the thing, though–he gave White Supremacists EXACTLY what they wanted to hear.
Are there deeper issues about which to criticize Trump? Could be. I’m all for using those, too. But any attempt to penetrate “Trump Amnesia” is a positive step.
