I voted for him and then he goes and does this to me. Unbelievable. That’s a betrayal of everything I hold dear.
I read some of the comments, and people massively agree that it’s better to have more daylight in the evenings than in the mornings. I’d rather have none most of the day but what about you? Dark mornings or dark evenings?
I also prefer more light in the evening so I can take my kid to a playground or a park.

Indiana was doing the same thing when I moved here in 2001. Then in 2006 the legislature stupidly decided we need to start doing DST again, and it sucks. We have two pockets – the 6 western-most counties on both the north end (Chicago metro area) and south end (the “tri-state” area that includes Southeastern Illinois and Northwestern Kentucky) of the state – that operate on Central Time, while the rest of the state is on Eastern Time.
The few years we lived here without the moronic “Daylight Saving” time change have spoiled me; I would give my left arm to be on Standard Time permanently. I really hope they actually make it happen.

I prefer more light in the morning but only because I have to go to work at an ungodly hour. If I could meet at 9 most days, I would prefer more light in the evening.

TBH I think the time change works about right north of a certain point (easier to change clocks than everybody’s schedules….)
In the winter it’s better to have light earlier (so kids aren’t on their way to school in the dark). I don’t know if children make their own way to school or a bus stop anymore in the US but in Europe they do and I think it’s better if that happens with some light.
In the summer it’s better to have later dawn (without DST where I am it would be light at 3am in June….).
What is inconvenient is that the time changes in the Americas and Europe aren’t coordinated (they are coordinated between European countries). That makes for a few weird weeks…

What do you mean by “I’d rather have none most of the day”? None of daylight? You probably meant darkness.
Anyway, I’d rather see DST go.
I don’t like sunlight. I would be happy with a minimum of sunshine but I’m not so blessed.
I have sensitivity to light.

The problem is that this is largely tied to geography.
South of a certain point (about the lower half to third of the continental US) about the lower fifth of Europe) it doesn’t make a lot of difference and is liable to be seen as an annoyance.
But north or a certain point DST makes a big difference to quality of life.
North of that line, most don’t like it getting pitch dark by 4.30 pm but most are willing to put up with that to have light earlier in the day (again, especially when kids are going to school).
They don’t necessarily want or need daylight at 9.30 pm but most are willing to put up with it to have light an hour later in the morning.
A referendum would probably be split along north-south lines.

I’m of two views here. On the one hand lots of people down here drive with the new blueish bright lights that makes it like they have their brights on constantly. In Georgia it is illegal for vehicles headlights to be at eye level. (This is mostly for trucks and other such.) At some point this law stopped being enforced and now if you drive a car nearly all the newer Trucks, SUVs, Vans, etc’s headlights are at eye level with those awful blueish lights. Which means when its dark, my side and central mirror turn into blinding beams of light every half minute or so.
So as much as I like the evening to be darker, I also would like to be able to drive to my house without being blinded every few seconds.
On the other hand, I hate mornings, and having mornings start earlier is not my idea of fun.
Frankly I like that earlier commenter’s idea of holding a national referendum on it. That seems like the best way to decide this.
