While we argue about the nation-state and neoliberalism, there are people who want to pay for their DoorDash with payday loans. There are many of them, and we depend on their voting choices.

we have zero financial literacy in this country. The stories I learn just at work would drive you nuts. People are addicted to spending. They live in the moment. I see some value in the old rule that you had to own property to vote but it was much easier to achieve that at the time.
maybe you should have to prove you actually paid taxes on either income property or interest earnings in order to vote. Right now 51% of people pay no income tax at all. What do they care what Congress spends it on as long as they get a share. I’d also like a simple flat tax.

In a local FB group, some poor guy shared that he took out gigantic loans to go to medical school but 2 years in realized that he can’t hack it. He thought that he wouldn’t have to pay back the loans since he realized it was a mistake to go to med school. The whole FB group is trying to explain to him how it works. I feel horrible for that guy. But how can one help a person like that?
