Yes, and that’s why millions of people from places that do have culture crawl through the desert and pay thousands of dollars to human traffickers who rape and molest them in order to access our culture-less country. We are the most desirable place to live on Earth because we have no culture. This must mean humans hate culture.
Both communism and fascism gained support as people desperately searched for answers to the widespread horrors of WW1 and the Great Depression. Both resulted in authoritarian regimes yielding even greater misery. Yet some of the propagandizing of the former’s utopian dreams still persist, most particularly in academia.

The places where most people in SA have moved to for a better life are the cities. This is also where the new administration has failed most badly and where new thinking is most urgently needed.

That’s a weird thing to say, it sounds as though the writer thinks American culture is so normalized they don’t think they have a culture. American culture is truly a mutant culture, British government and common law overlaid with stuff from everywhere else in a weird sort of mish-mash stew that can be great or off-putting depending on your tastes.
Coming from a Cuban American background and living in New Jersey, my family’s culture is a real mish mash of everything since where we live is so diverse. We eat Cuban food but also Italian and Chinese and burgers, in fact, my mother and myself know how to cook both traditional Cuban food and Italian and Chinese. I listen to lots of indie rock but also vintage pop from the 60s and 70s and lots of Motown and my brothers are heavy metal fans, plus my older brother collects Japanese manga and can read them in Japanese. So I would describe my personal culture as being part Cuban immigrant, part hipster and part whatever
