The most annoying part is that the novel I taught that has no black characters and that merited me an accusation of being a white supremacist wasn’t even chosen by me. I literally hate that novel. Not because of the race of its characters but because it’s a crappy novel.
It had been chosen by a very left-wing colleague who decided not to teach the course a week before the start of the semester and off-loaded it on me. This is very unfair.
For now nobody is going to do anything. But once the other guys are in power again? That’s when every complaint will be dragged out in a purge the likes of which we haven’t seen yet.

Ah. It’d be nice if the left, who seem finally to be rediscovering the value of free speech, diversity of thought, and tolerance, might take this moment to do some uni reform or something, to protect unpopular ideas, and the profs who talk about them.
I know, that’s too much to ask. Still.

Let us hope that the other guys you are referring to will have the wisdom to reinvent themselves in such a way that what happened to you would be less than anecdotical then.
Related to this, in students evals. I was accused of ableism because in my course there were no disabled protagonists. So when I taught that course again I made sure to include readings and materials that deal with disabilities. Some course material was actually engaging. But the second time I gave the course, students hinted that they wanted more “traditional” stuff. We never win.
Students are great, but often they do not know how to build constructive criticism.
