What many people don’t understand (because we have propaganda instead of news) is that Zelensky was elected in 2019 because he was pro-Russian and wanted to appease Russia. His electoral slogan was, “to end the war, we need to stop shooting.” That’s why I didn’t support him and detested him all through the years 2018-2022. He was tying himself into knots to be nice to Putin. He disarmed, cut the army’s budget, went hard pro-Russian.
It was only when the bombs started dropping on Kyiv on February 24, 2022 that Zelensky figured out that no amount of friendly gestures can prevent Russia from invading. Because the invasion isn’t happening in response to external stimuli. It was and continues to be driven by purely internal needs.
This is why Trump’s peacemaking efforts are failing so spectacularly. He doesn’t have anything that Russia wants. There’s nothing he can offer to get them to agree to peace. Trump is doing exactly what Zelensky did before 2022. And getting the same results.
Now ask yourself why you’ve never heard any of what I’m saying in all the years of the war. The answer is that there’s nothing but propaganda both on the left and the right. As I keep saying, the only difference between this news space and the one we had in late USSR is that Soviet people weren’t nearly as gullible and didn’t believe their propaganda as eagerly.

Worse, it appears (through the all time fuckwits Witkoff and Jared) that it’s been turned around with russia offering Trump and company something they want – access to the riches of the russian market.
Of course anyone who knows anything knows that there’s no way russia will let Americans make money there but I’m not convinced Witkoff and Jared know what to do when they’ve finished number two (probably need instructions each and every time).
And of course Trump does have something putin and russia desperately want but he doesn’t realize it and has no idea how to signal it and russia doesn’t know how to ask for it (cause if it has to ask it’s not real).
russia craves recognition and respect from the US and has no idea how to achieve it (I remember pro-putin bloggers before the war thinking that America would be delighted by the invasion).
Find a way to tie American respect to peace and resitution and the war would end quickly but no one knows how to get there…..

You are right about Russia wanting respect but it isn’t just any respect. The US needs to recognize its inferiority and subservience. The US president, whoever he is at the time, needs to agree to be lectured by Putin. That will do it. For a while. But soon it won’t be enough. Then a new cycle will continue.
Anybody who ever maintained a relationship with a diagnosed narcissist will know what works. And it’s not trying to give the narcissist positive reinforcement.
