Well, if a guy you’re with is being attacked by someone with a knife…. what else _can_ you do besides tug on their shirt and try to distract him (so the guy with the knife has a better chance to aerate him?

Plenty of other options, but they all code as low-class 😉 So the important thing when you are attacked by a mugger, is to avoid looking trashy at all costs, even if it gets your man killed.
IMO this is more typical female behavior in these situations: wait until man has neutralized the threat, then get a few good kicks in yourself…
