Another #MeToo Story

Another story has dropped of a #MeToo-inspired destruction of a guy with a fancy job. It’s only men (and extremely rarely women) with coveted jobs that are targeted by #MeTootery because nobody else attracts the eager whoredom of #MeTootie victims.

Asher was a star: the acclaimed author of four novels, including the internationally best-selling Thirteen Reasons Why, which had been adapted into a hit Netflix show that was about to release its second season…

Asher has never been formally accused, in any forum, of harassing or harming a woman—nor ever investigated, let alone found guilty, for such an offense. But he has lost pretty much everything—not just his identity as an author but his agent, his publisher, his livelihood, and his reputation. His marriage is over. He’s been virtually unemployable since it happened, he says (do an internet search for his name and you’ll understand why) and his life savings are gone.

Asher didn’t harass anybody. He didn’t act violently towards any woman. What he did do was have an affair with a woman on whom he cheated with a bunch of other women while cheating with all of them on his wife. In short, he treated women like disposable toilets for decades until one of the toilets finally shat back on him. They all deeply deserve each other.

The idea that women crave being ejaculated into and discarded has proven to be a lie. Who could have possibly guessed? Asher violated the gods of consent by fibbing to his mistresses. I don’t know if he’s learned anything from this but if he did, I hope it’s that consent is a terrible guide to morality.

The problem is that we still collectively can’t say this honestly. Instead, we throw around accusations of rape and harassment. It’s the general dishonesty of our sexual philosophy as a society that caused #MeToo. Women like Asher’s mistresses, of whom he had about a platoon-sized troop, pretended to “just want sex”, and Asher pretended to believe them and never asked himself why none of these women “just wanted sex” with any married janitors or unemployed guys. Neither he nor they deserve compassion. They play these stupid games and we are all on the hook because we are the ones who have to sit through endless harassment trainings when we all live in extremely faithful, happy marriages.

      1. Checking the timestamp there, the “bit someone’s finger off” intel was definitely out there, when BBC hit “publish”. Why would they leave that out?

          Not taking it as gospel, but it would certainly make sense of what happened there. I don’t think we really know anything for sure, for at least a week. But there’s a lot going on there that doesn’t fit with any tidy storyline.

          1. I think in terms of the specifics, the explanation you linked is the closest. I also want to mention that we had several ICE arrests here in town in the past week alone. I saw one of them. Colleagues mentioned others. Everything was extremely peaceful as evidenced by the fact that we are not on the news. We have a whole country of people behaving normally and peacefully on both sides.

            1. We’ve had a bunch of them here also. The only one that made even the local news was when they nabbed over 30 at once from the same landscaping business. No violence, only notable for the temporary street blockage.

              Whatever’s going on in MN is not representative. To me, it looks much more like the sitting pols have been profiting massively from fraud for years, and now that they’ve been outed, they’ve activated the legions of the dumb, damaged, and deranged to get themselves out of the news cycle.

              There was a quote in one of the Pretti articles, wish I could find it again, from the guy’s dad, saying essentially that he had discussed the protest with his 37yo son, and warned him not to go and do anything stupid. Not conclusive, but sounded awfully like… parent did not entirely trust a 37yo to behave like a responsible adult. Why?

              I expect they are all lawyered up now, and we will get no more unscripted commentary from the parents. I’d love to know what the guy’s coworkers thought of him.

              Do the organizers and agitators for all this “resistance” have any culpability for getting these people killed? It seems like a lot of this is in the same ethical class as telling Downs kids it’s perfectly fine to cross the subway tracks, never mind the third rail.

              There’s that bit of audio from the Renee G. episode, right after, where the GF is incredulous that the agents were using real bullets. Where did she get the impression that cops don’t use live ammo? It’s like until that moment, she thought it was some kind of mischievous kids’ game where nobody could get seriously hurt. Because rubber bullets or something. How do you get that disconnected from reality? Especially: how does that happen in a state where there are clearly no consequences to being arrested? The judges are letting them right back out.

              1. I’ve seen people online wonder why ICE only goes to MN. They seem unable to imagine that it goes everywhere but it’s MN that can’t get over its George Floyd fame and wants a repeat.

                As for the well-meaning cluelessness of Renee and Alex, my heart breaks for them because these are people who didn’t live in reality and life is very very cruel to such people. I don’t know if it’s the social media or the social group or the massive amounts of unrealistic beliefs people of their orientation are fed but they have died as a result and it’s extremely sad.

              3. There are almost no US polls that are accurate and unbiased. This may simply be built into the polling methods now: the covid years made a lot of people (on the same side) very reluctant to answer polls, and ever since people stopped answering unknown numbers due to indian scammers, it’s been getting more and more difficult to get anything like a representative sample in telephone polls.

                Non-random polling… is heavily skewed by the readership of the outlet doing the poll.

  2. The women’s statement is unintentional comedy:

    “He forms emotional friendships with women, turns them into deeper relationships via phone, texting, and email, and eventually moves them to physical relationships in-person,” the initial email read. “While we do realize that we played a role in our relationships with him and that we are responsible as well, the affairs have caused much emotional turmoil and distress in our lives.” Their marriages and careers had suffered, they wrote, and as a result, “we do not feel safe attending events where Mr. Asher has been asked to speak.”
