I don’t get it. Why shouldn’t fathers have a say about their children?

The Orthodox Patriarch cannot possibly support abortion. Saying “abortion is fine if both parents choose it” disqualifies him from being an Orthodox Patriarch.

The Russian version of Orthodoxy continues to deliver. Those people are completely beyond any reason.

In the Russian context, this is about fathers preventing abortions by not agreeing to them without the state introducing the direct ban that would be unpopular. And then nobody, including the fathers, the state and the church would care how the woman manages childcare alone.
It is about being a conservative without putting any money where one’s mouth is.
