This is the problem with the socialist mentality in a nutshell:

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

In the hours before he wrote this post, Senator Sanders (or his aide) spent money on whatever he wanted to spend it on. And he didn’t spend money on whatever he didn’t feel like. Yet when Jeff Bezos did the same, it’s supposed to be a problem.

It’s his money, little dude. It’s vulgar to bitch about how people spend their money. Raising the issue of jewelry Bezos bought for his wife is extremely vulgar. Stop counting other people’s money. Stop trying to tell them how to spend it. If somebody is willing to donate to the causes you care about, show gratitude. If they aren’t willing, it’s their prerogative.

I’m not a huge fan of Bezos but I despise these attempts to spend somebody else’s money.

Bezos should have his funds appropriated by the state because he is an alien freak alone, before we get into any socialist redistribution policy.

  …though on second thought the confusion is understandable, as the press has been an arm of the government for some time, so it is natural for people of his political persuasion to view press jobs as safe lifetime sinecures just like government jobs.

  There is a lot of bitching that WashPo’s international bureaus have been cut. But honestly, who needs them? I get all of my news about Ukraine from Ukrainians on the ground. Why do I need a retelling from some clueless foreign journalist? I have X. It never occurred to me to consult what WashPo is reporting about Ukraine. I get my news fresh and straight from the source. It’s a completely stupid business strategy to do what social media do but more slowly and expensively. Bezos tried it for a decade and discovered it doesn’t work.

      Everything I’ve seen about Ukraine in MSM was, at the very least, very belated. At worst, it was tendentious crap. It’s like they are hiring incompetent people on purpose. Or to fill a quota. Which of course would never happen khm khm.

        I can’t remember the last time I first heard about something in Ukraine in traditional media. I’ll see an intriguing headline, click and it’s something I’d seen days before…

        That’s also my experience.
        
        Journalists have painted themselves into a corner. They can’t do traditional news reporting because of social media. But they also can’t do thoughtful, in-depth analysis because they embraced an ideology that doesn’t permit this activity. Their profession is dying and all they can do is whelp like helpless puppies.

Reminds of the time, many many moons ago, when my husband worked for an architectural/engineering/surveying firm. The business outgrew the small office they had been using and needed more space, so they bought a larger building the lower level of which was leased to a day care center. The building’s previous owner had been charging the day care center a very low monthly rent, and the new owners decided they weren’t going to do that — they weren’t running a charity — and they increased the rent to what they considered a reasonable rate. The day care owners were livid, and the parents who were using the day care descended on the new owners of the building and raised holy hell. The owners politely explained that they were running a business and had expenses to meet, and the parents responded, “You guys are engineers and surveyors! You can always raise your rates!”
