Doll Update

American Girl dolls:

American Girl dolls, the new version:

What’s interesting is that this update is definitely not done for the girls who are going to play with the dolls. These are not relatable outfits. You can’t convince a girl in this age group to dress like this. A skirt this length with no leggings would be mega embarrassing. You can’t do anything in it. Play, run, climb. This is not how little girls are. This is how pedos imagine little girls.

Isn’t the point of these to be historical? I’m not saying the original doll outfits were necessarily 100% historically accurate but they at least tried.

This is such a shame, I loved the historical dolls and looked forward to getting the catalog as a kid. My favorite was Samantha the Victorian doll, I loved her outfits and I also liked Molly the 40s doll. I hate the modern dolls, those outfits are inappropriate for little girls and the little girls I work with prefer jeans and floral pants and shirts with glitter and unicorns, not those

      Was Samantha a Victorian name?

Sounds very 20th century, born in the 70’s/80’s, to me.

I’m not sure, I guess the creators thought it was a nice name. She was my favorite because she had the best outfits and also had the same dark hair and brown eyes as me and was white, the other dark haired and dark eyed dolls around were ethnic and I’m white

        18th Century US, apparently.

Judging by this reddit thread, there are a lot of adult collectors? https://www.reddit.com/r/americangirl/comments/1mej4ck/american_girl_modern_era_releases_update/
