Observation

Everybody at the school where I’m doing student-teacher observation is black. I haven’t experienced being the only white person in a crowd since my trip to Cuba in 1999.

Speaking of Cuba, any news? Will we finally see the collapse of the Cuban Revolution? Which is not an event but the name of the regime.

  1. I don’t know if I would give good odds on a Cuban Revolution. I can see where you and the media is coming from, but it all depends upon the locals in question.

If they see this as not the fault of … is Castro still running things? If they see the lack of fuel as being done by America or by outsiders, even if they hate their government, they might rally around it instead.

Most people do not like foreigners interfering and or especially making life worse for them. So I think there are decent odds that this might backfire.

    1. Cubans have been perfectly fine with being interfered with by the USSR and then Russia for over 60 years.

By the way, do you know how Cuba gets its haunted record low infant mortality rates? Forced abortions. Every pregnancy that’s even a bit high-risk is aborted. Older mothers, hypertensive, asthmatic, diabetic mothers. Any pathology of pregnancy. All of them are forced to abort.

I’m not saying it, of course, as an excuse to invade or bomb Cuba. I most definitely don’t support that. But I get questions about this stat from students at least once a month, and I wanted to mention it. Makes me so mad.

      1. Despite living in Georgia and thus being fairly close to Cuba location-wise. I actually know very little about Cuba. As Cuba has never really been a priority for me.

So no I didn’t know that bit about the infant morality rates. That’s horrible if true. Which given the way the world has been being run these days would not surprise me at all.

        1. It is a very sobering thought to me that, with my bouquet of pregnancy pathologies, I wouldn’t have been able to give birth to my daughter anywhere on the planet except in this country. God brought me here for a reason. I rebelled against His plan. Wanted to return to Cabada for years. But now I know why that wish wasn’t granted. In Canada I would have been childless.

          God bless America.
