We had on of the catechumens read in Arabic during the Paschal service. Now I wonder what he is converting from.

Presumably Oriental Orthodox… IINM Eastern Orthodox doesn’t accept those from Oriental Orthodox backgrounds without conversion…
But I don’t know how it works with Orthodox membership… If someone is a member of the Greek church do they have to convert to attend a Bulgarian or Romanian church?

According to my exhaustive research (30 second googling) Oriental Orthodox cannot receive communion at Eastern Orthodox churches.

I can’t go to communion anywhere except my own parish unless my priest gives permission (which he probably won’t), the other priest gives permission, and we all engage in a dialogue about why this irregular situation is happening.

Eh, just wondering, as many ROCOR parishes in the US are just as convert-heavy as Antiochian parishes… there was that partial reunification of ROCOR with the Russian patriarchate, and then there was some rift between Russian patriarchate and some of the other patriarchates (EP, Antioch) where now, it’s not totally clear if we (Antiochian) are OK to commune in a Russian church or not. It’s all very confusing trying to keep track of who is in communion with whom this week.
Honestly did not know if your antipathy to ROC extended to American parishes, which may or may not be Russian in anything but name.

I’m sure the parishes are fine but there are likely to be Russian people there and I can’t be around them.
