My dude, Russians are not denying that this happened. There was a court hearing. It was very public. There are many media reports about this in the Russian press. Look right here in this thread if you need one.

the Americans that go to fight for Russia are essentially wanting the US to be more like Russia. I cannot think of any better anti-republican / anti-conservative propaganda (i.e. an explanation why it is wrong to be a conservative).

Maybe… but the commies are just delusionally nostalgic. The conservatives, however, do it out of more current ideological closeness. I am not sure if “if the law is not on our side we have to solve it “po ponyatiyam” is part of ideological closeness or something else, but this is also a factor…
