On the subject of thinking, Nathan Cofnas has been suspended by Ghent University where he works. The motto of that university is, hilariously, “dare to think.” That is, of course, unless the thoughts you dare to think are approved by the administration of the university.

I am currently personally witnessing a situation where faculty members are trying not to renew an unqualified and problematic colleague, and it’s proving absolutely impossible. When identitarian reasons are in play, there is literally nothing you can do. People blame professors, but here is a group of professors who tried to hire based on merit and ran headlong into a big thick wall.

If you don’t want to hire a person who happens to belong to a preferred identity group, it is automatically assumed that the only reason is that you feel a profound and irrational hatred for that entire group. You’re labeled a hater, and that’s it, your goose is cooked. Nobody asks for explanations. Nobody offers to talk about it. The label is applied simply based on the fact of not hiring the identitarian candidate. You don’t get to defend yourself because there is no temporal or spatial break between the decision not to hire and the label. There is no forum for you to say, “But I hired half a dozen people in this identity category previously with absolutely no problem whatsoever.”

There is no way not to hire Jason Ardays. They are foisted on you no matter what you do. And anybody who notices the results becomes an evildoer who has to be ejected.
