By the way, whoever suggested that people at work are sick and tired of me and want me not to come by the office while on sabbatical is completely wrong.

I had an appointment in St. Louis this morning, and I took the scenic route back, so I came to the office after 1 p.m. Four people (1 student, 2 professors, and 1 office worker) practically threw themselves at me, overjoyed to see me and clamoring for my help. The idea that people would get tired of me and need a break is not realistic. I keep my contact with everybody, except my child, to the absolute minimum. I don’t think anybody on here even fully understands the depths of my unsociability.

I’m a slow and plodding thinker, and I need a lot of alone time to figure out what it is that I want to say in my articles and books.
