I’m traveling, so I didn’t watch the first day of the RNC. From the snippets I read, I want to hit my head against a wall. I know it was inevitable that Trump would say unnecessary things. The unnecessary things are the price you pay for the good stuff. But the part about giving $5,000 to every American is really unnecessary. It is already impossible to explain to regular people how COVID payouts caused inflation. This is making it worse.

Yes, Biden engaged in the same kind of voter bribery, but so what? It doesn’t mean we need to stoop to the level of Biden. And yes, Trump is a lot more equitable in his voter bribery, promising to reward every American and not specifically his voters, like Biden did. But again, whoop-dee-doo. Even a suggestion of another round of devaluing the dollar gives me a panic attack.

I see two people have already down-voted Clarissa’s post. Which says to me that those two don’t understand how finance works. Inflation is real boys, and every time it goes up (as the government refuses to let it go down.) Your dollar buys less and less.

Which is why your grandfathers could afford a stay at home wife, a house, a car, and six kids on a factory worker’s salary. And you can barely afford rent on two professional salaries.

Or in layman’s terms. When money printer goes Brrrrrrr, prices go up and your wages do not.

Exactly. Those $5,000 payouts to every American that Trump promises will have to be printed. This will immediately drop the value of the dollar even further. This will impoverish all of us. It’s a horrible idea.

Such thing as free money DOESN’T EXIST.

I’m sure Trump won’t really do it but even a conversation about this as a distant fantasy is a bad idea. Because people are morons. They will decide that it’s possible for the government to give out cash prizes at no cost and will start expecting them.

Bad, bad idea. If anything, the government should do the exact opposite and cut the costs down, stop printing money.
