I would ask him the name of his gay boyfriend, especially if he used the expression “pixie cut.”

On a serious note, a marriage that experiences a crisis over hair has much more serious problems than hairstyles. Within a marriage, hair will undergo all sorts of transformations as a result of pregnancy, childbirth, aging, genes, illness, treatments of illness, etc. Married love is way, way beyond all of that, or what is even the point?

    “Do you like my beard?”

    “Yes, dear.”

“What if I cut it off?”

“I think I like the beard better, but I’m not wedded to it.”

That works for hair, as well. Why must online people make everything so weirdly complicated?

I’ve had my hair long and I’ve had it short, and my husband has never expressed a preference for one over the other, so either he doesn’t have an opinion or both are equally acceptable to him. I, on the other hand, am very particular about his facial hair. He’d never had a beard before he met me, but I prefer bearded men to non-bearded and suggested very strongly that he ought to give it a try. He did, and he’s had the beard for fifty years now.

LOL, when we were young, I came home from the NWT with a beard(protection from biting flies) and smelling strongly of wood smoke. The dog was a bit suspicious, but my wife just threw me into the shower several times and finally hugged me ;-D

My husband is face-blind. I would never radically change my hair without consulting him first. He might mistake me for a robber.

FWIW, he always warns me when he is about to shave his beard (employer forces it periodically), and I also appreciate not having that sprung on me. We are creatures of habit.

If my husband ever shaved off his beard I would think he didn’t want to be married to me anymore.

As long as he’s not talking about pixie cuts, it’s all good.

Even I wouldn’t be able to identify one and I’m female.

My wife grew her hair down to her waist, but I would have loved her anyway…well, as long as she didn’t shave half her hair off and colour the rest green and purple. Guys are easy, but we must maintain some dignity ;-D

I would disagree. Straight men care, in a very general way, about women’s hair for probable evolutionary reasons – hair is a proxy for health and fertility.

They don’t care about a woman’s hair in terms of fashion but they definitely have general preferences (in general around shoulder length maybe a bit longer). “Pixie cut” is a term understood by them to mean any style that’s extremely short.

In fashion terms there are probably numerous variations but if it’s really short it’s a pixie cut and most men don’t like the look and think it makes a woman look less attractive.
