In Ohio, Ramaswamy’s campaign put out a distasteful ad featuring the mother of Ramaswamy’s opponent, Amy Acton. When Acton was a child, her mother married a pedophile who raped her 12-year-old daughter repeatedly. Finally, the children were removed from the mother’s custody, and she made no efforts to get her children back. Instead, she remained married to the pedophile.

That Ramaswamy would lend credence to this horrible woman is immoral and wrong. What people are missing, however, is that the whole story is evidence that Acton should not be in politics or in any form of public life. I feel extreme compassion for her, and it is precisely because of that compassion that I understand how wrong this current path is for her.

I have no idea how it happens that Ohio ended up with two candidates who should have never run for office. It’s a great state. There are tons of people. How come it was so impossible to find two candidates who are all there and are capable of running?

“It’s a great state,” in reference to Ohio is something only someone not raised in American culture and norms could ever come to the conclusion of. I am rare to have ever heard any sort of local pride for the armpit of the Midwest.

This is true, and I find this attitude often among my students. They live here in an absolute paradise, yet they think that this is a horrible, backwards little place and all dream of going to New York or LA.

One has got to be utterly insane to prefer these cities to, say, rural Ohio, but people don’t really get it. Their understanding of reality comes from screens. What it actually is like to walk by homeless encampments, or to be pushed around by drugged-out crazies in the streets of a big city, doesn’t enter into their calculations.
