Since I stopped being a liberal, weird things happened on the left. There is now a very strange habit that liberals embraced to address people as “girl” or “girlie”. The former is used when they’re trying to insult you. The latter is a term of endearment.
It’s a strange mix of self-infantilization and borrowing the vocabulary of idolized subcultures. It’s also a big contrast with the liberals of 20 years ago who would never refer to adult women as girls and perceived this vocabulary as demeaning. Now it’s the exact opposite. The word “woman” has become unpronounceable in liberal circles for reasons we all know. Coupled with overvalorization of childish behaviors in adults, it led them to this linguistic shift.
