It’s completely untrue that the Holodomor or Stalin’s deliberate bringing of Hitler to power were unknown to the leftists outside of the USSR back when they first happened. Whittaker Chambers lists these as the two primary reasons he had left the Communist party in 1937.
Everybody always knew everything but pretended not to. Fellow communists to whom Chambers tried talking about it pouted and refused to offer any response. Then they tried to kill him.
