Speaking about New York, there’s definitely something to lying in bed on the 21st floor, with skyscrapers towering over you. It’s enjoyable for short periods of time.

One thing I’ve found hard in New York is getting used to the fact that transportation by car is pretty much not an option. Traffic is so bad in Manhattan that cabs or rideshare are extremely slow and expensive. And after watching all 28 seasons of SVU, there’s no likelihood I’m going into the subway. You have to walk everywhere, and I like walking but this isn’t like walking in Madrid. There’s garbage everywhere, it reeks of pot, and we ran into a naked transgender on our first full day here.

On the positive side, I have solved the mystery of why New Yorkers elected Mamdani. They spend all day inhaling marijuana fumes. They are simply high all the time without knowing it.

The NYC subway system is the cheapest, fastest, and most convenient way to travel long distances within the metropolitan area. Forget the SVU episodes — Millions of people ride the subway daily, so your individual odds of getting attacked, shot, stabbed, etc. are miniscule.

To follow up from Dreidel…..We rode the subway all over NY for about a week (not long ago). The riders are many and from all walks of life: tourists, families, mothers, young people, old people, people finely dressed, people in financial distress, middlez class people etc etc. And there was not even a hint of anything scary happening at all. One crime is too many, of course. But I cant emphasize enough what a fundamentally safe system it was. And it is the absolute best way to get around the city. I loved the NY subway system.

Will the following stop people who worry US helps Israel too much?

“President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. will end its annual military aid to Israel by the end of 2026, accelerating a previous 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was scheduled to run through September 2028.”

In other news, I am shocked and hope some people will now see what kind of regime we’re dealing with:

“Iran threatens to attack Ukraine and Poland in case of war with US”

Иранский государственный телеканал IRINN активно обсуждает возможность нанесения ударов по территории Украины и Польшы. В качестве потенциальных целей в Европе на случай войны с США названы Киев, Львов, Одесса и польский город Жешув.

The fixation on Israel in the US was manufactured and is maintained from Russia. It will end once the Russian propaganda apparatus is dismantled. Which is not likely.

I’m sorry, I don’t have pleasant answers for anybody today. These are problems that, once they are brought into being, they are very hard to undo.

Why would Russia be so interested in spending resources on that?

Because it fractures and undermines the United States, it elects us people like Abdul El Sayed.

Glad to know you’re in town, I live across from the city. But I agree, the city is starting to go to shit and it’s getting to be as bad as the 70s when Dad lived there. I hate the smell of weed and garbage, but if you see crazy people, don’t look at them and hurry away.

The subway is okay, it actually gets much better if you take the outer borough trains like the Q or N trains which go to Queens and the south of Brooklyn, both are actually above ground. The last couple of above ground stops have good views of Sheepshead Bay and then Brighton Beach and Coney Island, Brighton Beach actually has a large population of Russian and Ukrainian Jews and Soviet immigrants if you’re interested

Come on. Think of it as Sex and the City.

Is your sister as hysterical about taking the subway in big cities?
