It’s a mystery why. A mystery, I’m telling you. Aside from sky-high prices, failed promises on immigration, zero promised legislation, and a weak foreign policy, everything is fantastic. Voters should be chomping at the bit for more of this awesomeness, amirite?

Q&A: The Pope

I’m not Catholic so I don’t follow much. I have a vague feeling that the current Pope is better than the previous one. But maybe it’s because he’s American, and I have more faith in American Catholics than Argentinean because the Argentinean ones tend to be Commie types.
Do we have any Catholics here who have a better insight? I’m very persuadable on this or any other Pope because what do I know about what’s good for Catholics?
Honduran Elections
It looks like the Putin-owned presidential candidate in Honduras, Rixi Moncada, is not going to win the election. This is good news. If Honduras falls to the baddies, that would not be great. It’s now between the centrist and the right-winger, both of whom are unimpressive, but at least the worst danger is behind us.
UK Abolishes Jury Trials
In the meantime, Great Britain is abolishing jury trials for a variety of offences:
In an attempt to tackle a record backlog of 80,000 cases, Mr Lammy will on Tuesday … set out the Government’s … plans to scrap the right to jury trial for defendants facing offences likely to result in prison sentences of under five years.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/30/cutting-jury-trials-will-undermine-free-speech/
This means that the people arrested for speech acts will most likely be imprisoned. Please observe how this is formulated as a result of austerity. There’s no money for jury trials, there’s a large backlog, this is a necessary measure, etc. Civil rights are abolished under the pretext of money shortages. Meaning that money shortages are very convenient.
America First
Yes. Ukrainians and Americans are united in their desire to have the US distance itself from this war. Just kind of go away and concentrate on American stuff. There might even be a name for this attitude, such as, dare I suggest, America First.
Why we are not getting what both Americans and Ukrainians overwhelmingly prefer is… kind of obvious but I’ll let everybody draw their own conclusions.
Why Zelensky Didn’t Prepare
What many people don’t understand (because we have propaganda instead of news) is that Zelensky was elected in 2019 because he was pro-Russian and wanted to appease Russia. His electoral slogan was, “to end the war, we need to stop shooting.” That’s why I didn’t support him and detested him all through the years 2018-2022. He was tying himself into knots to be nice to Putin. He disarmed, cut the army’s budget, went hard pro-Russian.
It was only when the bombs started dropping on Kyiv on February 24, 2022 that Zelensky figured out that no amount of friendly gestures can prevent Russia from invading. Because the invasion isn’t happening in response to external stimuli. It was and continues to be driven by purely internal needs.
This is why Trump’s peacemaking efforts are failing so spectacularly. He doesn’t have anything that Russia wants. There’s nothing he can offer to get them to agree to peace. Trump is doing exactly what Zelensky did before 2022. And getting the same results.
Now ask yourself why you’ve never heard any of what I’m saying in all the years of the war. The answer is that there’s nothing but propaganda both on the left and the right. As I keep saying, the only difference between this news space and the one we had in late USSR is that Soviet people weren’t nearly as gullible and didn’t believe their propaganda as eagerly.
Schools Are Weird
Schools are weird. Can you guess the only subject in which Kara has a B?
Reading.
I won’t explain why this is ludicrous because if you’ve been around this blog for a while, it’s very obvious.
My interest in grades is non-existent, so I’m not planning on asking the teacher what motivates this B. All I know is that if this is a kid you don’t consider a sensationally good reader, there’s something wrong with your understanding of reading.
Newcomers
At the parking lot, we were blocked dead by a huge snow plough driven by a pair of Cubans who have been in the country for 10 days, don’t speak a word of English, had never seen snow before, but already have a job driving the snow plough.
I had to look at two dozen photos of the Cubans posing against the snowstorm with their wives before I could drive out. I love Cubans. It was a very pleasant encounter. For them, too, I’m sure, because who else around here speaks Spanish?
Children’s Reading
I read 5 pages of a kids book to Klara and in those 5 pages I found:
- A girl who has two “moms” whose sexual preference is transmitted genetically;
- The idea that a boy who offers an unwanted friendship to a girl is exercising force (that’s the word that was used. Force). That the boy had no way of knowing the girl didn’t want to be friends is unimportant;
- The idea that the only way for a boy not to be accused of exercising force against girls is for him to read their non-verbal clues;
- The idea that boys need to be superhumanly sensitive to girls’ moods while the girls need to show no sensitivity to boys’ feelings.
A few minutes in, and I’m already pissed off in the extreme.
Do MAGAs Want War?
I don’t know how to put images into comments but this is from a young parishioner at my church. Not an online personality but a real young dude I know in RL. I snipped off identifying information because he’s a private person:

A hard-working young man. A graduate of my department. Recently married. Speaks several languages. Orthodox, very religious.
Every single time I talk to MAGAs either in RL or online, I hear how angry they are about the US bombing Iran. This is why I’m very puzzled by the suggestion that MAGAs want the US to invade other countries.
