I was going to post that I think I won the Americanization challenge but then I talked about it with my BFF who is a real American and said, “I even had my very first PB&J and I liked it even though I’m not into desserts.”
The BFF looked appalled.
“PB&J is not dessert!” she exclaimed.
“What is it then?” I wondered.
“It’s lunch,” she explained.
This sounded so weird to me that I realized I wasn’t yet nearly as Americanized as I thought.
I miss my BFF!
This made me laugh. Yes. PB and J is a lunch. (Or sometimes breakfast!) And it has protein, some vitamins (if you use good jelly), fiber (if you use good bread). So it’s not terribly unhealthy and can be quite filling. But I agree that it’s a bit on the sweet side. So it’s a rare lunch for me. 🙂

Especially if it’s a hydrogenated peanut butter with wonder bread. Truly empty calories in that case!

Heh. When my kids were much smaller, they were in a peanut-free school. Many parents (me included) found a definite advantage. Since sending PB in the lunches wasn’t an option, than meant you could serve it for dinner with impunity! It’s the mortar that holds the country together.

OK, I will never get Americanized enough to see PB&J as dinner.

Where I grew up, kids didn’t really do the peanut butter/jelly sandwich thing for their lunches; it was a lot more common to see kids bring spam musubi (a slice of spam on top of a bed of sticky sushi rice with a seaweed wrapped around it). The musubi definitely had less sugar, but I’m sure it knocks the sodium level right out of the park.

I recently decided to run away from my responsibilities for a few days and take advantage of a sort of long weekend and so I spent a week in Bodrum, Turkey.
I was here (my room was on the second floor far left)
The view
Nice food (no PBJ)
With a sidetrip to Kos, Greece
A drawback for you might be the welcoming committee (she seemed to spend about 95 percent of the time in this threatening activity though she groaned in pleasure whenever guests leaned down to pat or scratch her head).

Annnnyway, PBJ isn’t lunch for me (at most part of one) it’s more of a between meal snack.
Did you win? Well, is it your opinion that you won?

Wow, what a beautiful trip! Good for you! Of course, the dog would totally spoil the whole thing for me.
I want to go to the beach instead of dealing with another round of academic intrigue here.
