Why do I suddenly get dozens of spam comments promoting Google? How come it is in need of promotion?

They might be trying to ruin your score with google.
If the google web crawler visits your site and finds a lot of spam links or duplicate links or stuff like that, you might get your ranking cut, or even flagged as spamsite.
