From a student’s essay: “In the 15th century, Jews suffered a lot of horrible persecution in Spain. But what I was shocked to learn the most was that it wasn’t the atheists who persecuted them for having a religion. It was Christians who tried to force them to convert and then expelled them!”

LOL! After reading the 1st sentence I thought the next would be of horrible persecution of atheists, who were persecuted in the 15th century too, right? Less or more than Jews, if it can be compared?

I see 1 good (for me) sign from it – when religious people switch From killing or “only” abusing each other over religious differences To sticking together against those horrible persecuting atheists, it’s a sign of society becoming more secular. At least, if one looks on centuries’ scale.

I just imagined those crowds of atheists roaming Medieval Europe in search of religious folks to persecute and I almost choked with laughter.
But, of course, it isn’t really funny.

Wait, it’s even better – Medieval Christian atheists persecuted the Jews, but left their Christian brethren in peace. Because of Nationalism. Or do they think Medieval Christians were persecuted too?

I am left wondering why anybody would think for a moment that atheists might attempt to force convert Jews to Christianity. It is hardly a halfway step to atheism.
