So I just read an update on the armed robber I talked about in the previous post.
First, I underestimated our students. The victim was carrying $200 in cash. This is kind of surprising to me because I don’t even remember when I last saw $200 in cash. And not because I don’t have money but simply because I have no idea what to do with all this cash. Especially on campus at night. Weird.
Another piece of news is that the criminal was apprehended by the police. Probably, he did stick around waiting for the bus.
This is a very strange little town we have here.
It almost seems like a planned crime in the sense that the mugger probably knew the victim beforehand. I would estimate that less than 1% of college kids (or even regular people) carry that kind of cash on them. This is too much of a coincidence.

That’s what I thought, too. Probably, this is why the robber was apprehended so fast.

I don’t like to blame the victim, but my first thought was somebody was mugged while trying to score some drugs.

And I thought the victim must have been a dealer.
You and I seem to be equally cynical.

That was my first thought as well. Then again, I went to a college where one teacher, while discussing the concept of delayed gratification, said “What is going to be your top priority, that exam tomorrow, or that nice sticky bud in your desk drawer?”

What does the “sticky bud” refer to?
I feel like I’m both cynical and naive at the same time.

The evil reefer.

You’ll laugh but I had to Google the word “reefer.”
I’m very clueless.

I’ve heard of reefer, but not sticky bud either. Guess I’m naive…

It’s THE POT, LA MARIHUANA, that evil thing that will turn you into a brainless junkie!!!
If you want to understand the US better, spend half an hour on YouTube watching the anti-drugs commercials from the 80s. They are unbelievable.

Not to refute your wisdom, but I encounter a large number of ‘recreational’ pot users on a daily basis. They’re not ‘junkies’ in the stereotypical sense, but they are consistently at the bottom of the socio-economic scale (that is – the unemployable). Can’t guarantee that there is a causation going on there, but there certainly is a correlation.

Pot smoking has huge negative side effects on long-term users. However, I fully support people’s right to destroy their brain with this garbage.

To be fair, the most consistent pot users I know, and I mean almost every day, are: an HR executive, two teachers with graduate degrees, a medical insurance coder, an assistant audiology technician, and a MA candidate.

But none of them smoke all day, or at their jobs, or before their jobs, or on their lunch breaks, or anywhere around kids, or anywhere around other employees. And they are very good at what they do.
P.S. woah man I am so baked right now turn up the TV I can’t taste the Funyuns.
