Young Lady

An older gentleman just gave me this book as a gift in front of the Student Center.

He called me “young lady”, so couldn’t resist accepting it. It was more the “lady” than “young” that did it for me.

And the funniest thing is that I opened it at random and immediately alighted on my most favorite passage that I often recite to myself. Especially on my way to work. It sounds a lot better in Russian, though.

    1. It’s Corinthians 13:4–8a. 🙂

Do you have a favorite passage?

It was probably not a good idea to distribute the books on campus because students leave them all over the place, including outside in the rain and it bothers me to see that. So I walk around rescuing them.

      1. I have tried to familiarize myself with all of scripture. But if I had to choose, I suppose it would be the passage early on in the book of The Acts of the Apostles (I think it’s chapter 6 or 7) where Stephen defends himself before the Jewish council. I still get goosebumps when, as he is being stoned to death, he looks up and sees Jesus Christ standing before the throne of heaven as if to welcome him home…By all accounts, members of royalty are normally SEATED on their thrones. So Christ stood up to greet Stephen. Anyway, it’s a picture I hope to see some day myself…

  1. My ignorance is showing again – Corinthians is a book in the new testament – I didn’t think it would be included in an excerpt of the books of proverbs and psalms

That’s a good thing (you saving them). I am a book lover, too. I especially value non-fiction.

Students should know that for many people this is a holy text, so it’s wrong to toss it out in the rain. It isn’t a newspaper.
