As strange as this ad is, I have to confess that in terms of shoes, I’m definitely number 3 from the top. I have very sensitive feet and prefer ballet flats to any other kind of shoe. And the guy that corresponds to those shoes on this graph is really my kind of guy. My eyes immediately go to him out of all these men. Hmmm. . .

I look like the guy on the far left but but if I saw a woman doing anything other than be at home or walk out to get the paper in those shoes I’d be confused to say the least.

The shoes I really hate are the second from the bottom. But the corresponding guy is really great.

High heels pinch, but I have a fondness for boots with wedge heels, because they make me super-duper tall, make my bum look fantastic (according to Jaime) and are quite comfortable. I’d say that type of shoe is closest to the bottom third, but I don’t care for hairy chests like the one on the model it matches up to. My favourite man on the chart is the one on the right corresponding to the top third shoe, because he’s got nice skin and a lean build.

hahaha i love it… I’m sure woman all around the world can relate. truth is i don’t look at a woman’s shoes. i look at other important factors. i think ama make a graph of my own. i think that graph is widely believed in women’s heads

Without talking to the guy and finding out his capacities for critical thinking and aesthetic sensibility I really can’t make a decision. The only thing that really matters to me physically in a partner is that they appropriately clean and dress themselves on a regular basis. BMI’s just not a dealbreaker for my fat ass.
But since we’re just ogling torsos I guess the last three are okay.

I think I’ve mentioned that my partner and I are like Lenny and George. I’m a colossus who has trouble making decisions and noticing what’s going on around me, and she’s tiny and canny.
When it comes to men, though, I guess I do prefer someone bigger than me, which is sort of a hassle to find. So maybe what it boils down to is I’m lesbian because lazy?

I find it interesting how everyone is interpreting this graph as equating preference in shoes to preference in men. I look at this and see a story of a couple, or a series of couples at various stages in their relationships who are trying less hard to impress each other as they grow more comfortable and “letting themselves go” by not exercising as much and wearing more comfortable shoes.
I also don’t see a graph. I see a set of axes where the data has yet to be filled in, but that’s just my math classes talking.

There is no graph on the page. It is impossible to tell which shoes go with which man. It is possible to plot a point at any man/shoe ordered pair. Are we somehow supposed to assume a line of slope 1 passing through the lower right hand corner? It could just as easily be a line of slope -1, for example.

I think this is what makes this ad so great. Anybody can choose for themselves where to place the line. For me, it works if it passes through (1,1), (2,2), etc. But it may easily work in a very different way for other people.

Phew…I’m not the only one wondering where was the graph on this page? I don’t see any lines, data clusters or anything really…how is a particular shoe correlated with a man body type? I can only see two axes. ‘
