It’s really funny to get messages from Netflix begging one pathetically to “Come home to Netflix.”
Sorry, Netflix. It was good while it lasted but now Kindle Fire has killed you for good. I just watched the entire first season of a British show called Keeping Up Appearances that is so much about my family, it’s scary. I started watching it in the bedroom, continued in the bath-tub, and finished in the kitchen as I was making dinner. And it cost me exactly $0.00.
Don’t be lonely, though, dear Netflix. I sent cable television to the same sad place where you find yourself right now.
This is what I mean when I talk about the rapid changes in technology. I remember how quite a short time ago Netflix was a really big deal. Now it’s all but dead. And it took less than 10 years for the company to rise and to fall. You’ll think I’m saying this just to prove a point, but I swear on my Kindle Fire that right now I’m wearing gaucho pants that I bought before I first subscribed to Netflix.
Oh, I would love to hear your analysis of that show! My friend loves it, and actually loves Hyacinth, the horrifying main character. She told me that this is because Hyacinth is trying to better herself, and she knows what it is like to live with people who don’t.

Hyacinth is my mother, Richard (her husband) is totally my father, and her sisters are really really like my mother’s sisters. It’s unbelievable how much this family has with mine. So I kind of find Hyacinth endearing, too, because I find my Mom endearing. 🙂

Oh I find Hyacinth nearly unbearable to watch! She makes me anxious and nervous. I think I feel a little like Richard. Can you share an example of how your mom is like her and how on earth Hyacinth is endearing? Is it because she just wants everything to be nice? 🙂

A lot of my friends in my age group signed up for Netflix over November and December at the news that Arrested Development was going to be put back into production and available through Netflix rather than cable TV. If they continue that formula with other cult TV shows people in my age group love (Firefly, Daria, and such) they may survive yet.
Canadian Netflix’s selection is kind of sad and paltry compared to what’s available in the U.S. Jaime and I are eternally furious that Star Trek: TNG isn’t available on Netflix in Canada.
