New Theme

So?

If you hate it, just tell me. It takes two seconds to change it, and the themes are free.

I just feel ready for a change.

  1. Dunno… I honestly liked the old one better — this one seems somehow washed out, like there isn’t enough contrast or something.

  2. I personally find this format less inviting. But I’m not sure why I think that. So I realize that I’m not being very helpful!. 😉 …. Also, I tend to like very boring formats: so don’t go by me! But I just want to emphasize that I will keep reading your blog no matter what the format. It’s the content that keeps me coming back! 😉

      1. I’m also with GMP. This brown is difficult to read on my screen. Maybe not enough contrast between the yellow of the notebook and the brown font? Could you change the font to black?

  3. I too preferred the old one. This one somehow feels less compact — a lot more scrolling to do to get to the same amount of content.

  4. Look, I’m going to read your blog no matter what. Usually I read it in google reader (where theme/formatting doesn’t matter) and come to the blog only when I have to read/post comments. So David’s concerns are more critical.

I agree with luna. This is much less compact and I don’t like having to scroll three pages to read a short blog post and a couple of comments.

  5. OK, since David is one of the most faithful readers of the blog, I’m honoring his wish to save his eye-sight and changing it back to the notepad format.

New themes appear all the time, and I will be on the lookout for something that will make us all happy.

  6. The previous one was easier to read. I hate yellow notepad paper (to write on or read from), black on white is the best for eyes.

  7. Something that also bothers me now that I read a few posts is that lines of text don’t correspond to lines on the notepad “paper”. Any chance of fixing that? You could perhaps increase the font size to correspond to lined paper…

    1. I feel that, too. It is disorienting for the eyes to follow two different horizontal lines, one for the text and the other the ‘notepad’ line. Sometimes the notepad line is above the text, sometimes below the text and at other times the line cuts through the text right in the middle. It’s distracting.

I’d prefer any light coloured solid background without any patterns. This yellow is nice.

  8. el, I hate white writing paper. It begins to hurt my eyes after about an hour; I always use yellow paper, since it is much easier on my eyes. I suppose it is a physiological difference between different people. But back in the early 1970’s I did an accidental experiment, giving tests on different colors of paper.(*) Students who took math tests on yellow paper did best; those who took them on green paper did the worst. After that, I used yellow exclusively so as not to cause a disadvantage to some students.

(*) This was one of the few times when I gave multiple choice tests, since the course was required by the department to be tested that way. I now refuse to teach this way, but as an assistant professor I did not have the clout to refuse. The different colors were different test forms which had the same questions in a different order. A student would not get the same color every test (four tests during the term, including the final exam) unless by accident.

    1. Even if the paper stays yellow, wouldn’t it be better to have a black text rather than brown text? Black text is much easier to read. For me, at least.

Clarissa, do you want to try changing text to black?

May be it’s physiological. When I read books, I prefer white paper, not yellow-ish f.e.

      – This is very interesting. I print out different activities on differently colored paper but the tests are always on white. I will now try to do the next test on a tan colored paper, just to see how it goes.

  9. OK, I get it. The notebook theme is no good.

    We can keep searching.

What I want is a template that is clean and dignified, I also want the blog’s name to be in big letters. And it needs to accommodate all of my widgets because many templates simply don’t.

  10. This one with green names is better. And green is a nice color for the eyes.

Do you like Bradbury’s short stories? I would love to buy their full collection, but can’t find it.

      I saw:

Оригинальный сборник The Stories of Ray Bradbury,

I am lazy now to check story after story (may be you know?), but if the bolded part is true, then buying those 2 books would give one 200 different short stories. Btw, in which language in your opinion is better – Russian or English? I read him mainly in Russian and tend to lean to Russian (may be not translating on some level lets feel the story more as I read, could it be? Have you noticed ever something like it? I don’t consciously translate in my head, but still…), but may be by not reading in English I miss something?
Or one could buy 1 book in English (the red one) and another in Russian…

  11. Just to let you know, there’s now a huge gap in between the post and comments–seven pages of blank space, by my count, but I’m reading on a netbook, and I’m using Firefox, so that may be making a difference.

For reference, (’cause it seems you’ve tried a few themes judging by the comments) this is happening on the Blogum theme.

      1. OK, that doesn’t work at all.

I’m going back to the one I like the most. Sorry, folks, I can’t make everybody happy. There is something about each theme that somebody hates.

I like this one, though, because it keeps all posts separately.

    1. Thank you! I like it the most so far but I know some people will be unhappy. It is simply not possible to accommodate everybody’s preference, as much as I’d like to.

  12. I don’t like this theme. Like, I don’t like it at all right now.
But you know, I’l get used to it and end up liking it aswell if you keep it like this… I remember I also hated it when you switched to wordpress from blogger because of the theme change and I like it nowadays so… whatever.

  13. Feeling patriotic, right? Honestly, I like both the brown and the red, while and blue themes. They are sort of retro.

    1. It took me quite a while why people were referring to this theme as patriotic. “It isn’t blue and yellow and it isn’t red and white,” I thought. “Are people suggesting that I’m honoring the Russian flag here?”

It literally took 15 minutes to get the reference.

      This is too funny.

  14. One irritating problem is that this format (theme?) has not way to get easily from the bottom of the comments to the top, nor to navigate to the next or previous entry. It is necessary to s-l-o-w-l-y scroll up to the top through dozens, sometimes, to get to the top of the entry to get to the homepage, the next entry, etc.

  15. In the previous template, you could click on either the next or the previous post at the bottom of the comments of any entry. If you wanted to get back to the homepage, you then could click on that from the top of any entry. I suppose that part is still possible, but getting to another entry or the top of the current one is tiresome.

The only way that I have found is to open another window or tab, navigate to clarissasblog.com, andthen begin again.
