Two Blogs

I know have a second blog. It’s a blog where I will conduct my summer online course. The course starts on May 23, and already students have started registering and leaving comments on the course blog. (The university enjoined me from making the blog open to the general public which is why the students have to register).

As I sit with two blogs open in my browser and commenting on both of them, I keep fearing that I will get confused and will forget which is which. The last thing I need is to regale my students with a few “vile freakazoids” in the course of teaching.

This will be my very first online teaching experience, and I wonder how it will work out.

  1. I consider online teaching to be part of the dumbing down of America. Like multiple choice examinations, it substitutes memorising for critical thinking and direct exposure to questions. There is no substitute for direct interaction, face-to-face. I never engage in online instruction since I consider it to be antithetic to university education. I am sorry to read thaty you have been caught up in this malevolent development.

    1. Oh, I agree completely. The online instruction cannot even begin to compete with real face-to-face teaching. But we need to pacify the administration with this single online course so that the core of our program is undisturbed by attempts to push them online. I’m just trying to make the best of it for the moment.
