Ransom

The bank teller greeted my request for $200 in bills of $5 and $80 in bills of $1 with suspicion. She probably thought I needed them to pay ransom. We are a very small town, so everything is small scale.

Can anybody guess the real reason I need all these bills?

I’ll need to start giving out prizes for solving these riddles soon.

  1. Food & Drink Vending Machines? That’s what I constantly need shekels for.

I also thought of the possibility of paying students for taking part in a survey for your research. Happens often in economics or science (brain scans f.e.) departments, but probably not in lit.

  2. Let’s see you asked for 40 $5 bills and 80 $1 bills. This means you need to pay $5+$1+$1=$7 a day for something. I’d say parking if you were living in a major city, but this sounds high for your neck of the woods. It seems also a bit high for bus fare, but plausible.

  3. I think you want 40 amounts of $7. The Jewish month of Elul is not far away. Some Jews do 40 days a penitence at that time. Is this anywhere near close?

  4. Going to one of those fun ladies’ clubs where singles are good for tipping the entertainment? 🙂

      1. Ironically, that was my first guess too… not because you strike me as that sort of person (you don’t), but because a few of my acquaintances are bar tenders and they often go into banks with large amounts of 1’s and 5’s, and get asked if that’s what they were up to… But my actual guess is (and I haven’t read the rest of comments so I don’t know if anyone guessed it yet or not) – you’re about to go on vacation, and want to have change available to tip various taxi drivers, concierges, and anyone else you come across in the vacation situation requiring a tip?

    1. AND THE PRIZE GOES. . . . TA DA DA DA. . . TO EVELINA ANVILLE!!!

Yes, this is money for the tips at my Dominican Republic resort.

I have been reading the reviews last night and people seem to be horribly stingy and petulant about the tips. I think that is wrong. What’s $1 to a tourist? Why make such a big deal out of it?

  5. I’m so proud!! Thank you; thank you. 😉 But that’s a great idea. I never have enough small bills for tips. Next time I will get the small bills ahead of time. Great idea! 🙂
